English
All Student programmes will aim to help students work towards AQA GCSE English. We do however recognise the need to help students achieve their full potential at a level appropriate to their individual needs and therefore will also offer Functional Skills and Entry Level support as required.
For the GCSE, there is one exam paper and four controlled assessments which are available twice a year with papers at higher and foundation tiers. There are three Units to the assessment,
Unit 1: (Exam) Understanding and producing non-fiction texts which has two sections, Reading and Writing
Unit 2: Speaking and Listening
Unit 3: Understanding and producing creative texts which has two parts, Understanding creative texts and Producing creative texts.
On joining Wizard, students will be set an assessment to identify strengths and areas for improvement whilst also gain an indication of the current level of performance. An appropriate program will then be agreed for the individual.
Sessions will mainly be in group format with additional individual support available as required within the group and further one to one sessions where this is beneficial. English will also be embedded into individual projects, enterprise duties and other activities for instance: group discussions, team briefs and reviews, communicating with customers and suppliers, creating posters, leaflets and other promotional materials, following or providing guides and instructions, conducting research, completing forms, short written and verbal reports, feedback and personal reviews.
